Need some advice, got my first speeding ticket in 30 years, doing 36mph in a 30 zone.:(:o

Had the letter in the post this morning, they spelt my first name wrong, also first line of my address incorrect, is the ticket still valid?

Man up and pay the fine! You were speeding in a 30 zone and got caught. Learn your lesson and move on.. And speed on the motorway like the rest of us :)

The information on my NIP isn't accurate - does this invalidate the NIP?

Not Necessarily - There is a "slip rule" that allows the court to modify small errors (such as name/address of the keeper) due to typographical mistakes. Serious errors can't be modified, and invalidate the NIP.

Inaccurate NIPs - The "Slip Rule"
There is a "slip rule" that allows the court to modify small errors (such as name/address of the keeper) due to typographical mistakes. Serious errors cannot be modified, and will invalidate the NIP.

If the registration number is incorrect then the Defendant need only complete the Section 172 Notice attached to the NIP, stating that they are not in fact the registered keeper of the vehicle whose registration number is shown on the Notice.
If you think that the speed quoted on the NIP is wrong then you should follow this link.

Errors in your name and address fall under typographical mistakes and so do not invalidate the ticket. Unless of course it is clearly addressed to someone different, in which case, how did it get to you?

Depends, if its a replication of what's on the VO5 then its your fault for not getting the details corrected and the NIP is valid, if its not then they have served it incorrectly and its invalid. Unless the law has changed on it in the past couple of years.

As per my previous post, Pepipoo is specifically set up to try and help motorists where there isn't a valid case for prosecution. Their aim is 'Helping the Motorist Get Justice'.

Seeing as the Pepipoo site clearly states the ticket is valid, then you'd be very stupid to ignore it, unless someone can come up with a very strong argument as to why it's invalid.

It's all very well people posting snippets of 'law' as fact, but unless they can actually quote a reliable source for their information, then I'd take it with a large pinch of salt! Pepipoo is a large, trusted motoring site specialising in just this sort of thing.

It's been "changed" for a lot longer than the previous couple of years.
Incorrect name, address, make of car, location - all of these can be amended if/when you case gets to court.
So not accepting the fixed penalty and hoping to just "get away with it" on a technicality isn't going to happen.
Having your day in court wont get you any more points, but will most likely increase your fine.

Anyway, I'm assuming at the moment all they want you to do is confirm you're the driver. Don't forget to return that within the time limit given. Or else that becomes 6pts for "failure to furnish".

Put your hands up, send it back as you are likely to get offered a speed awareness course for that speed.

Granted it costs a little more than the fixed penalty, but you get no points and you do not have to inform your insurer that you have attended the course so you save that way instead.

/shrug, we have "got off" a number of cases (last was ~18 months ago) due to similar technicalities.

Cool. Sure the people over Pepipoo would love to hear how and more importantly which constabulary.
Because any threads from the past 2yrs+ show that mistakes on these forms don't help your cause at all.
