How can I speed up my Linux netbook?
If I go to youtube it buffers / lags every few seconds...is there something I can do? There isnt much on it...
Would uninstalling half of the pre-installed rubbish help?

specs / model / operating system version?

type top in the console and see what is running

how much memory?

Can it play videos from disk using e.g. gstreamer / vlc? is it just youtube that has problems? What about vimeo ?

1GB Memory
80GB HDD
Intel Atom CPU N270 1.60GHz
Ubuntu Release 10.10

With VLC player it is fine with no lag, but its only on youtube and when I play videos people post of facebook it lags...

it's a bit low on memory with only 1 gig. My dual core Atom struggled with Flash until I upped memory to 2 gig. Your mileage might vary, but it's a well known problem that Flash on Linux quite badly suxs at the moment compared to Windows and Macs

I've got an N270 with 1Gb that plays youtube videos fine on Joli OS.
Are you using the full version of Ubuntu? Maybe use a netbook distro?
