hi,

i have had a look at the sticky but is there anything more that i could do to make windows faster? Latly it becoming more and more sluggish.

I have scanned it for viruses, spyware, adaware and spybot S&D. Have defraged it with O&O defrag, I have deleted unused programs and files still got 60GB left from my 80GB HDD.

Any other ideas that could help speed it up?

thanks

Just had a look at the process and its mainly my UPS monitoring software, about 5 programs that are linked with that.
Then there the basic ones like firefox, msn messinger and outlook 2003 etc.

I'm going to assume that you are at least a power user, so, using msconfig, uncheck every single startup. Every one.

Then, using services.msc, disable as many services as you can.

Keep an eye on your processes (taskmgr), and services (from a command prompt, type tasklist /svc), disabling the ones that you do not require.

There are very few programmes that are a must for running a stripped down OS, including firewalls and AVGs.

Add a VM Size tab.

And close all of your open programmes (messenger etc...)

You should only be concerned with background processes.

I'm assuming you are behind a NAT firewall (hardware router), and that you don't open every single "click me" email that you receive.

How do I add VM Size tab? or do you mean take a print screen of the performance tab?

Lose Zone Alarm

Lose it, and kill it with fire.

Lose Avast.

You system is slow because it's full of crap.
Lose rupsmon.

Lose ashserv.

The general idea is to lose anything you don't need.
