Can off duty policemen or women charge you (give you points or whatever) for speeding ?

Not without proof that will hold in a court of law (on duty law people), no.

a policeman cant do you for speeding off duty but I have known a policeman can do you for dangerous or reckless driving off duty if needs must or if you are causing a danger, was in the paper some months ago i remember reading, big debate.

An off duty police officer will not carry FPN's and will not be in a police vehicle nor will they have VASCAR technology in their own car. I can't see how they can do that both technically and legally.

As said, no they can't. However ANYONE can report you for dangerous/careless driving, as I found out about a year ago now.

It was maybe 40-43mph in a 30mph zone, whilst over taking the said car.

How could you possibly get convicted on the words of a random person though? It wouldnt happen.

I didn't get convicted, but I got hassled for months to provide evidence on the behalf of the accusing party (they wanted me to incriminate myself :confused:

).

Got nowhere, created a lot of hassle for both myself and the police, and just wasted police time in general. All because I overtook a slow moving (20~ in an NSL) at around 1am in the dark.

lol. they cant drive, so they try and make you out to be a dangerous driver because you can? typical.

You could have simply refused to answer their calls and never replied to anything they sent you though? They had nothing with which to prosecute with?

People who are not exactly brilliant drivers have seriously warped idea of what is and isnt dangerous.

One guy at work thinks I am a dangerous driver because one minute he was driving behind me on an NSL road, the next minute I had overtaken the car in front :confused:

That is what I did, doesn't stop them calling my home and mobile phone numbers multiple times a week for MONTHS on end.

Seems very strange, how did they get your phone numbers in the first place, especially the mobile number?

I can only assume that they must have had more than one report of your car for them to have even bothered chasing you up. And even then its strange that they tried when they had no case. For example they pretty much always drop speeding charges for this reason if you fail to supply usable evidence as to whom was driving the vehicle at the time as they know its a waste of time trying to prosecute.
