Earlier today I was driving along a 30mph road at about 36 and spotted a lot of people in high vis jackets further up!!!:eek:

As I got closer I noticed that the person holding the speed gun was an elderly looking bloke with a plain high vis. I saw 2 people with police high vis jackets on and the other 2 were in plain jackets, i'm guessing this is some kind of community speed watch thing. No police cars further up or anything

What I want to know is would I have been stopped if they were going to give me a ticket? Or should I expect a NIP in the post?

Cheers ;)

AFAIK with these they send your info to the Police, who send you a letter asking to keep speed down?

That's what i'm hoping for tbh but the fact that there was police officers there made me think otherwise. dunno

I got a community speed watch letter once, it was exactly what you said. Mine was signposted as such as I drove by, mind.

Community speed watch. Bizzare! Does our country really have nothing better to do?

nope, although its basically just a way for the police to get busy bodies off their back, do a days training, get a few letter sent out and the reality is that they won't do it more than once or twice a year, if that. Makes the local anti speed brigade think they are getting what they want but no real effect is had.

The police there was probably just training them tbh

Really want to come across one of these, they are begging for some 1st Gear VTEC action @29.8mph!

They love to sit halfway along the A377 with their high-vis jackets early in the morning.

If you did fly by at 100mph and they caught you on camera, it is still inadmissible in court. It is evidence that must be gathered by the police.

I totally agree with community speed checks.

1) Police can not be everywhere to check speeding in towns/villages
2) We live in these places so lets help

I have kids and the amount of cars that speed through our village (Thorpeness) is mad. Now I dont mind fast cars etc, but in a 30 keep it 30. Want to drive 100+mph do it on main roads like I do.

Joke around all people want, any car comes near my kids in my village at speed, you dont want me to see you walking around. (like any parent)

So all these nothing better to do, we need to keep doing this for our towns/villages. Main roads in my view go as fast as you like.

Speeds appropriate to the road and conditions. 20 & 30MPH are usually for good reason, so you'd be a fool to break these limits. Only ever open up the full supercharged second cam shaft on empty motorways in perfect conditions. Or on track. The 10secs to 100MPH comes too quickly to ever consider it in any other environment.

Whilst I agree that most places are 30mph for a reason...

Placing the honus entirely on the driver is ridiculous... how about you teach your kids to not run out in front of a moving vehicle or if they're too young to judge then they shouldn't be walking along the road unaccompanied.
