Got caught speeding last year, I opted to attend the speed awareness course, instead of taking the 3 points. This was in Leicestershire.

Now, I've just got caught again  but this time in Warwickshire.

I know that apparently they won't offer the course again to me as i've already taken it within the last 3 years. Someone has just told me this happend to them (getting caught in different counties) and that they got offered the course again because of this, has this happend to anyone else?

P.S. I know I should not of got caught in the first place :o

I've been reading around as I'm concerned I was caught (first time) and I've seen a lot of people saying that you only get offered a speed awareness course once in 3 years. Tbh I'd be suprised if they would even offer it to someone who had 4 years space between offences, you're not going to forget a course like that every 3 years.

Count yourself lucky if you're offered the stupid course. If you're not, just accept the points and move on, after all you knew the risk before you started

It was a genuine mistake, I was in a place I'd never been before...34 in a 30

Well I'll just have to wait & see what happens I guess.

34 in a 30 isn't all that bad, but sadly I reckon you might get the 3 points this time. Good luck getting off them though.

I wouldn't be saying that if you said you had been doing 60 in a 30 of course.

Let us know how you get on.

Well since my company built and maintain the system that does the eligibility checks I can suggest you'll fail and thus not be offered a course unless there was a data entry error first or this time around. The fact it is different counties makes no difference as the central eligibility check is national.

Hold up folks, we got a baby killer over here.

4MPH over the limit? You monster, criminal scum, you should be locked up.

34MPH measured maybe but on his speedo it will have been reading 35MPH or more.

I personally would never begrudge you for that, I have done it in the past and wouldn't for a second claim to be the perfect driver. But as others have said, if your attitude is that you shouldnt have got "caught" rather than "i shouldn't have been speeding" then the course obviously hasn't worked.

To me this highlights a flaw in the system. I think everyone should be entitled to the course the first time if the speeding is within reason. But if it then goes and happens again they should have the points / fine, and be sent on the course again to try and get the message across.

Harsh I know, and no doubt my tune would change if the roles were reveresed, but it's my opinion :p

I don't think speed awareness course attendance information is shared between forces and as you didn't get a conviction it won't show up on PNC, so it's possible you may get it offered again.

34 in a 30 = a ticket just shows driving is now a optional tax.

I love cars,I adore fast cars. But atthe moment the government is making it stupidly hard to own and run a decent one!

It's not shared between forces but the eligibility check is run by a force against NPIA's nDORS system, prior to offering a course. That is kept up to date nationally not because the forces update it but because the training course providers submit details of attendance.

Far be it from me to lecture, but the whole point of the course is to make you aware of things so as not to make 'mistakes' like that. On my course they banged on about how ignorance is not an excuse, and how you should assume a road is a 30 if you don't know any different. Don't get me wrong, the course didn't really make a lot of difference to me either, I'm just saying that I highly doubt they will offer it again as it clearly hasn't had the intended effect.

I decided some time ago to ignore all speed limits and decide myself how fast to go. It's worked really well so far, and I've had the cleanest period in my driving career. I'd recommend it to everyone!
