Speedlimits and tailgaters

In a similar boat to you, Grudas, with regards to the amount of driving. I just tend to ignore them and let them get on with it.

But yes, Audi does ring a 'bell' :p

Personally, I think it is to compansate for being a little bit lacking in other areas. I know it's rather pop-psychology, but whatever.

And if they are late? Leave earlier.

To be honest the state of how people regulate their speed in this country is abysmal (although probably better than most other countries still :p)

Almost everyone drives too fast or too slow for the limit/conditions. People who drive by the limit/conditions and keep to a reasonable pace that isn't too fast or too slow are few and far between these days.

I had the father in law ****ging off some van drivers/HGV's for going slowly in NSL's until I pointed out he was in a large van and should have also been going slower

Gotta jump in here: I've actually been hit from behind by some 'unpleasant person' tailgating. We were approaching green light on a crossroads and he was up my chuff. I slowed down in case the lights turned red before we got to them. Anyway he still hit me :(
Then he claimed I was high or drunk (?!?!!!)
Um you were the one driving too close in a Merc 4x4!!
So yeah if you're too close then I'll just flow right down. Least the impact will be less...

Drivers are so angry nowadays. Why do people put themselves and others in danger by tailgating if they feel the car in front is not going fast enough  they are risking a crash and higher premiums just to save a few seconds. I Can't even sit in the inside lane of the motorway now without people tailgating either. There's other lanes for them to overtake in!
I even had an idiot overtake me as we went past a 30mph speed camera the other day .
I find all these parcel delivery firms like Yodel etc the worst as they all earn money per delivery and are rushing about barging past everyone. There not bothered if they prang there crappy works van on someone's pride and joy.

30s and 40s are fine if people are actually doing the limit, and that means actually doing it and not dithering around 25mph or 35mph. Its even worse when most 40 roads around here used to be NSL roads and doing 35mph along them is just so tedious.

But....by far the most irritating driver is the one who does 30-40mph...everywhere. I was in a 15 car train behind one this morning and you could tell everyone was getting a bit wound up, people were having to brake every now because they were getting too close to the car in front and you could see people were looking for overtakes etc. Anyway, the car finally pulled off and everyone who was behind briskly went up to 60mph and as if by magic the proper 2 second gaps between cars started appearing with no one tailgating, no one becoming impatient and the road just flowed brilliantly. Its amazing how one selfish driver can, rightly or wrongly, cause such a hazard to everyone else. I prefer to get passed these people swiftly as they are also often the ones who'll make erractic maneuvers, come to dead stops at clear roundabouts and all sorts of other strange driving which is just tiring when you have to constantly be on full alert for it.

Completely.

I still find van drivers are the worst for overtakes. I've had my heart in my mouth twice with knob head van drivers overtaking several cars around bends. One of them happened as I was going to work, and I had have a mind to get him a summons sent out for it.

I've thrown a leftover sandwich out of my sunroof many years ago when I had some twonk in a Merc sat right up my bum, it landed on his bonnet.

Wouldn't do that nowadays though.

Annoys me because i have a baby on board sign too.

True.... I always try and give extra room for these cars as the drivers are normally more attentive and concerned about their special little ********* than actually focussing on driving....

I just let them overtake, then sit there laughing at them when I'm right behind them at the next set of lights or queue of traffic. They don't seem to like that much.:p

This. People rush about crazily and hardly ever get anywhere quicker anyway. The amount of times people fly down this 50mph stretch ( which is often policed) at 60 or more on my way to work and then get held up at the next junction whilst i go past them again is hilarious.

Also, as much as i love my Fiesta ST, almost everyone tries to race me or overtake me regardless of what car they are in, and to be honest it is becoming quite tiresome. A lot of people seem to overtake me, or go silly speeds up a dual carriageway to get past me and then sit in front of me going the speed i was going anyway

People are just **** and driving brings out the very , very worst in people ( myself included probably in some cases).

The people that annoy me the most are the ones that do 40 in a 60 then continue to do 40 in a 30.
But still, It wouldn't make me so annoyed to do anything about it apart from have a good moan when I've got to where I'm going.

I do find drivers in London worse than the rest of the country, must be something to do with the ridiculous congestion making people too anxious to make (sometimes illegal) progress at the first sign of a clear road.

Ignore those behind you. I sit at the speed limit and if they get to close i just slow down till they get the message. Failing that just tap the brakes to make them aware. Annoys me because i have a baby on board sign too. Worst offenders are truck drivers. Once stopped on a incline in the wet on purpose because of a truck driver really tailgating me to the point i couldnt read the reg plate. Needless to say it took him a while to get going again. Well he might think next time.

Wannabe vigilantes like you are just as bad as the people tailgating you in the first place.

The one that gets me is if I am in a line of traffic maintaing station 4 seconds or so behind the vehicle in front.

(I like to leave a big gap because it is safer, more relaxing and also gives joining/turning traffic a chance. something the selfish bumper to bumper gits seem to fail to appreciate  )

Inevitably I end up with somebody right up behind me.

Now the question is, what does he actually want. There is a whole line of traffic ahead. there is no possibility of gaining an advantage by overtaking.

The only other possible manoeuvre would be to speed up slightly, close the gap, and then resume the previous speed. which would be utterly pointless.

I find HGV drivers often do the same thing when I am clearly following another HGV that the guy behind cannot possibly overtake. (If he cant overtake me, he is not going to be able to overtake the HGV further ahead is he)

What is going through their heads??

People reacting to tailgating can be as bad as the tailgaters themselves frankly holding up the traffic playing their petty little games.
