Speedlimits and tailgaters

Gotta jump in here: I've actually been hit from behind by some 'unpleasant person' tailgating. We were approaching green light on a crossroads and he was up my chuff. I slowed down in case the lights turned red before we got to them. Anyway he still hit me :(
Then he claimed I was high or drunk (?!?!!!)
Um you were the one driving too close in a Merc 4x4!!
So yeah if you're too close then I'll just flow right down. Least the impact will be less...

You shouldn't slow down if the light is green though....

What's reasonable varies considerably based on the road, conditions and type of vehicle. If you're in an old van, in the snow, driving along a tight side street that's a 30 limit, then nobody expects you to go along it at 30. If you're in a perfectly good car, in good conditions, on a wide open road, dawdling along at 25 - it is a bit annoying.

Why did you slow down? That's what ambers are for.

You'll just get used to them eventually.

There's 1 **** driver for every 9 good drivers, now imagine how many **** drivers there are on the roads.

The sooner they wrap their cars around a tree the better.

People going under the limit irritates me but i never get cross with anyone doing the limit ( although people that brake ridiculously for a corner or when a car is coming the other way on the other side of the road are bothersome).

Agreed, that bothers me more.

What annoys me are the people who do 40 in a 30. Then you get to national and they still do 40.

I find that people tailgate at 30, but at all other speeds they don't.

And they tailgate at 20. Lots of the time.

Relatively recently, a road around a park where I live has been switched to 20. Fair eough, the visibility and so on is relatively good but the Ripspeed kids took the urine. So they dropped it from a 30 to a 20.

Now this is very well marked but people largely ignore it.

I was driving around the park at 20 when some bawbag come racing up to me, flashing. Of course, he didn't see the mobile speed van ahead because he was so intent on me 'slowing him down'. He got pulled and I didn't.

Result, I guess.

I've also had somebody drive on the opposite side of a traffic island with a 'keep left' sign on to overtake me in a 30

As mentioned by somebody else previously, however, as long as they are a danger to themselves then it's no great loss.

Problem that I find in London is that muppets either want to do 35+ in a 30 or do 25-27 in a 30. Both result in road rage.
Near where I live there is a stretch of road (~0.5miles) full of speed bumps (crossings) and large potholes.

My car does not have that much ground clearance at the front, and if I take any of them speed bumps at higher than 15 mph my front bumper will scrape. For that reason I will slow down to about 10mph so I don't break my spine. The amount of times I've had retards that flash/beep me and overtake me its unbelievable. Seems to be always from these van/delivery drivers who think that I will wreck my car so they can get to their deliveries faster.

If the road is fine I will do the speed limit, but if the road is going to wreck my car then I'm taking my sweet time.

Agreed..

I came through a ford this morning that was sheet ice entering and exiting the water, as I was going up the hill this woman in a freelander full of kids came tearing down the road, so I pulled over to let her past and did a slow down signal to let her know there was sheet ice at the bottom of the hill, and could see her swearing and blinding and gesticulating with first one and then two fingers at me.

Wife and I were laughing our heads off as she went past, then braked, lost it, then went sideways into the river.

Luckily it was only a few inches deep, but the rage was quite hilarious knowing what was coming up. No harm done to her car or occupants.

Anyway, there's enough (insert hardware manufacturer of choice) rage on this forum to satisfy anyone really :)

Actually i have had a think and i know what really winds me up more than anything. Vans/lorries ( or even cars) overtaking you on a dual carriageway at silly speeds to get ahead just before the road turns into a windy single carraigeway NSL road where they then proceed to hold me up because they can't take any of the corners faster than 30-40mph....

The other day I was behind someone doing 20 in a 30 for a good 2 miles. Then when a junction came up lights were red for at least 3 seconds he literally slammed the accelerator and ran the red light. I just couldn't believe my eyes.

The amount of mental cases I see on roads is unbelievable.

Also there's a 30mph road around here where it is seriously dangerous to do anything less than 50mph. I try to avoid that road, it's not nice having to break the law just to drive safely.

Lol its dangerous to do less than 50mph on a road? And how is that? Does the road run through an army firing range?

The drivers that get me are the ones doing 40 in an NSL single carriage way, but then carry on at the same speed in a 30. You overtake them at a safe opportunity and then come to the 30mph limit and slow down. They the proceed tail gate you because they only seem to be able to drive at 40 miles an hour whatever the limit.

Oh and drivers who think it's safe to join a motorway at 40mph, making no effort to get up to speed with the traffic in the left hand lane they want to merge with, and backing everyone up behind them.

I do get annoyed if people aren't doing 30 in a clear road i.e. no parked vehicles. But never get annoyed at anyone doing the speed limit.

What does annoy me is people doing 27 or less in the same scenario and the slow down further to below 25 when there is a speed camera. I do try and overtake them at the nearest opportunity as it can add a lot of time to a journey if you are doing the same route.

Indeed. I'm curious too as that sounds a little ridiculous!

There are quite a few roads like that in London just because a road can be slightly twisty in locations or where dividers disappear. However, these roads usually have 2/3 lanes and so whilst most people drive above 30 or 40 (depending on the road, and driving conditions) you can always safely stick to the left lane.

Oh and another thing I hate, those that do not keep up their speed on a clear road!!!! Takes the urine when those prius drivers do 25 then 30 then 35 then 32 then 29 etc

:D

Not really, When you have a 1 month old baby in the car and some 40ton lorry wants to sit on your bumper while in a 30 and doesnt get the sign thats in the back of a car saying there is a baby on board then they get what they deserve.

After all trucks kill a lot, and those are the kind of people that call them selfs professional drivers. So if i want to make his life more awquard by slowing him down then so it shall be. Not really a vigilante in no way shape of form was i taking the law into my own hands. what i did was slow down to a controlled stop, it wasnt like i stood on the brakes. If he wants to drive like an idiot then let him, but while he is in a 40 ton truck with my daughter in the car i think not.

You were so concerned for the safety of your daughter that you brake tested a truck and then attempted to inflame the driver's temper by slowing excessively. If you cannot see what's wrong with that then I really do worry.

If you were actually worried then you would attempt to get out of the situation as quickly as possible, not exacerbate it.
