SpeedLink Medusa SL-8793 5.1 ProGamer surround sound settings??

I recently purchased a SpeedLink Medusa SL-8793 5.1 ProGamer headset along with a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 soundcard. Although the sound quality is ok in games like COD4 I dont seem to be getting "surround sound", I can hear right and left but cant really tell if somethings coming from the rear. I've set the card to output 5.1 and the same in the game.
What settings are people using to get the best surround sound from this combination?
I'm running Vista64 and the latest XI-FI drivers.

Try the audio test in control panel to see if the front and back ones are working - you may just need to get used to it.


Use the DVD setting on the hand-control !!! CD does nothing as far as I can see.
