Speedlink Medusa - USB Question

I was wondering if there's a significant change in quality between the Speedlink Medusa USB and normal Medusa headsets, does the USB one suffer any kind of quality loss/difference?

The USB one would be perfect for me as I don't have a 5.1 sound card installed, but I'm just wondering if I'll be sacrificing any quality/usability by going down this road.

There is a significant drawback to getting the USB ones. They reduce gaming performance. I am unaware by how much but they do.

The sound is supposed to go wrong too occasionally.
