Well after almost 3 years my Speedlink Medusa headphones have developed a rattle in the right ear piece. I've tried my best to figure out why, but it is driving my crazy! Anyway, I love them... they are by far the most comfy headphones I've ever worn. Not only that but they sound pretty good too and are great for gaming - despite what some say they ARE better than a stereo solution, for me at least.

If anyone knows why headphones would suddenly start to rattle for no apparent reason let me know!

Anyway, I see they don't seem to sell the original anymore, at least not 'new'. So I have been looking at it's replacement which appears to be the overpriced "Home Edition". Are they any good? They look very similar, but do they retain the same qualities? Does the amp still suffer from the interference from hell problem mine does? :p No reviews of it seem to even mention the older versions.

Cheers!

I have the home version. The only interference i had was from my cordless phone. Took about 2 weeks to figure that one out! There is also the gaming edition, which is minus the amp. Just not from Overclockers.

The rattle is probably down to a blown speaker :(
Noooo! Not good! Don't know how it happened, just came home from work one day and turned my PC on. First noticed it when someone signed into MSN. :( I have used them for my fair share of sound wave abuse though :p

Strangely I don't get any interference from my cordless phone, or wireless lan which uses a similar frequency. I get loads from my mobile though, drives me mad. If it happens in the middle of a game I end up throwing my mobile across the room. Not good :D

whats wrong with getting the progamer 1s?
They don't come with an amp which means I can't plug my speakers in too. Besides, they are USB powered and I don't have any spare USB ports.

Thanks for the replies, I will try take them apart see if it is something simple, if not I guess I will have to buy the new home version. Cheers :)

Im assuming you already have the amp. In which case, can you not get the progamer ones and just use it through the box?

Different connections. Progamer ones plug directly into the sound card and use a USB plug for power.

If you get some new ones get the ProGamer Edition unless you want to have a desktop amp in that case go for the Home Edition, I also agree they are very comfy and I don't know how anyone could say stereo was in anyway better.

The ProGamer ones come with a USB power supply that you can use in a USB port or with the mains adapter.

The Programer version don't come with an amp and connect directly to your sound card just as your speakers would. It uses a USB plug for power. Apparently the new revision doesn't have the removable mic as stated on the OcUK website but a fixed one instead.

The Home Edition comes with an amp, similar to the original version that I have. It has a pass through which lets you connect your speakers to the amp and switch between the two without unplugging anything. Although on the new amp you have to press a button to do this, the old one I have you don't. But the new amp is better in almost every other way from what I have read.

I have already said I don't want the Progamer ones because they don't come with an amp and are USB powered. Bad!

I don't see why being USB powered is a problem.

Yeah but wouldnt the progamer one be better for playing games and listening to music?

For a start it won't connect to the amp, which means I can't connect my speakers at the same time. Also:

No. They are both identical inside. The programer model is aimed at gamers because it doesn't need a separate PSU and comes with a useless carry case. The "Home" model is supposed to be for home cinema type users. Not really sure how they came to those two conclusions, but oh well!

Also, I like being able to control the volume with the amp rather than messing with my PC volume control.

You don't need a free port because it comes with a mains adapter. I already told you that  .

And it does have an amp to change the volume.

Anyway . . . I like the home, very comfy headphones. If you have nothing to lose, open up the headset. It could just be loose, or it could be a blown speaker. You may be able to replace it.

Sorry to TJ a little, but I was considering these phones a while ago, but many reviews showed a fault with bass not being sent to the rear speakers. So I didn't bother. Is this still an issue? Or was it an oversight / glitch or something??
