I was wondering what kind of speeds do you guys get from Mac to Mac over Gigabit network?

e.g. iMac to Mac Pro

for my set up iMac to Mac mini i get 40MB/s theres a tp link Gigabit hub in the middle pletty fast for HD movies, the iMac is my Plex Media server and the Mini is the Client connected to my TV, might sound daft but the cables help a lot, tried using some ethernet cables i had at home when i first set it up and was getting 10MB/s bought some new ones from OCUk and it jumped to 40MB/s

I've always been able to get about the max you'd get given read/write speeds.

The cable you were using at first wasn't fully wired, I have a few from routers that came like this, they will only work at 100Mb, not Gigabit.

yup didnt no at the time but it was an older cat number :p using cat6 with this set up

I get over 100MB/sec over my network, was just making sure Macs would be the same, how comes you only get 40MB/sec?

most of my media is on usb hard drives so its limited by that when i have files on the iMac hard drive transfering to the mini i do get 100MB/s it peaks at 110 at times

Just like anything, you'll be limited to the read/write speeds of the drives involved. Don't expect 100MB/s from a 4200rpm laptop drive :)

But with SSDs on both sides you'll happily saturate a gigabit link. PC or Mac regardless ;)
