Speedstep and overclocking

Hi,

On some overclocking guides I've read, they recommend disabling C states or Speedstep, because the voltage changing a lot can cause instability.

When I had a 2500k at 4.6Ghz, I left speedstep enabled so it downclocked to 1.6 or something and undervolted when computer was idle. I ran this for a few years and the computer was perfectly stable.

My 6700k is overclocked but I have speedstep and C states disabled. I haven't tried them turned on yet.

Anyone else know much about this? Does speedstep usually cause instability on an overclocked CPU?

I have never disabled it and haven't had any issues myself, but have heard of these issues on forums.

I find it much more preferable to have my CPU not running at full speed all of the time.

I never disabled them on my 2500k or my 4790k, just use an offset on the vCore

I've overclocked a few CPUs, a 3670k, G3258, 3820k, 3960x to name a few and have never had issues.

I have every possible energy saving option enabled with my 4670k and even a few that I had no idea what they are for (there is a energy saving guide for ROG boards) and I have not had any problems.
