Speedstep doesn't work when using a fixed multiplier?

I have a 2500K and a Biostar TP67XE.

I loaded optimised defaults in the BIOS and the stock 3.3ghz will throttle down to 1.6ghz as expected using a balanced power profile in Windows 7 64-bit.

However when I increase the multiplier to say 40 and above the CPU won't throttle down to 1.6ghz and will stay at a fixed core speed.

Any ideas why?

:p

Set the turbo to 40... never touch the individual core values
Thank you kind sir. Saved me much time and hassle.

It truly is Xmas.

If you don't mind could you look at my settings. (Default if not specified)

Anything you would change?

Okay, testing 4.6ghz with a 0.5v offset. (0.1 resulted in a BSOD after a few minutes in prime)

So far CPU-Z is showing 1.332v while running prime.

No problem at all, in fact I'm glad you liked the prompt, efficient yet free service :D

Yeah, overclocking can be a hit or miss with a lot of trial and error involved, your best best is to find the official sandybridge overclocking thread and ask a resident expert in there.

ps Had a quick scan of your settings and all seems default, nothing wrong stood out.

All the best and the very best of luck to you
