Is it normal for speedstep to adjust my cpu voltage and multiplier DURING games?

I thought it would disable itself when you run a 3D program of any kind.

Not 100% sure, but I think it may be causing me some trouble.

Have any of you guys experienced problems during games?

How have you viewed what speedstep has been doing while you have been in a game? While you're in a game your cpu will most likely be pumped up to full speed all the time, older games it might not be.

afaik speedstep does not get disabled, if it's enabled in the bios it is working all the time.

if you are in a game and you alt tab to desktop to check your cpu speed then it might be lower than your top speed because your cpu isn't having to do much hard work because the game is not full screen, might explain your concern with speedstep if this is why you brought this up.

Stuttering issues in game are more likely to be due to SLI or graphics drivers or too high settings or just because it's poorly optimized for pc. Some older games have issues with multi core cpu though I think.

I don't think speedstep can cause big problems in games, it should be sensitive enough to provide the cpu speed needed at all times.

I can see what the speedstep is doing during a game because if I run Core Temp it has a display for my Logitech G15 keyboard. The info on this display shows cpu temps, voltage, fsb and multiplier.
The voltage, fsb and multiplier fluctuate constantly even during busy moments in Call of Duty 4 and Crysis. Whilst on the desktop it stays at a constant mulitplier of 6 and I never have any problems whatsoever.
Games are what cause me a headache because they crash the whole OS at a random time during playing.

As I said, I cannot be certain that speedstep is causing my problem but it is the only thing I have noticed that doesn't seem right.
