if i put speedstep on...

will it do the following...

1. upset my overclock [make it unstable]
2. save me a great deal of electricity [does it drop the vcore as well as the multi]

there is next to no difference between on / off

I am interested in answers to the OPs question.

What do mean by no difference? I have often wondered whether I should turn both Speedstep and C1E back on while it is overclocked.

If I turned them back on would it affect the stability of my machine?

well i turned it on
and benched everything i have

same results

so it is working in the way that just browsing the web and typing out letters/listening to music are all being powered by a slower clockspeed

but i have no way of measuring if i am actually saving anything

my motherboard has a program that shows how much power you are saving - but it doesnt turn on if the cpu is overclocked - so its a bit pointless

I dont see any problem in using speedstep, it lowers heat and power usage while idle/ not doing much.

You must be mad to disable it

#1 No Had speedstep on my duo rigs since day one never caused instability
#2 Yes it drops the voltage my 6420 drops to 1.20 volts from 1.37 with speedstep kicked in, no reason to not have it turned on probably doesn't save a fortune but does save something.

Lower temps and lower electricity when not needing the full power it's a no brainer.

cool - well its on there now anyway - and i havent seen a difference

so it can only be a good thing

@ RJK, MooMoo and C64....

Thanks guys, will change it tonight, when I first overclocked the general opinion was to have those options off, I guess I should have tried it first.... :p :D

Just try it and see. Well worth having on if your computer is still stable as when just surfing you will be using 200W less power compared to a heavily overclocked q6600 plus you can have a quieter system to boot.

That equates to about 50p a day or about £180 per year. Of course, you won't be running at the lower speed 24/7.

And as said, I can run mine while surfing with my watercool setup running passively so total silence.

However, I could never get my system stable with old overclocked rig with them on but my new rig is so best to just try. If it works, leave it on

I have it enable, so basically when the system is ilde or not working much it runs at 2.4, then when its working hard or gamming it increses to 3.6. I have no probs with it.
