I've been running a 4.4GHz overclock from day 1 (system bought and built from OCUK) and it's been fine. My idle temps were always about 30-35°C depending on ambient temps. Today I thought I'd enable Speedstep and was expecting my idle temps to drop. Speedstep works, but my idle temps remain the same. Is this because my CPU voltage (1.315v) in BIOS is manually set in order to help my system employ the overclock ?

So what I'm wondering is, is there an option in BIOS that would throttle back the CPU voltage when Speedstep kicks in which would then lower my idle temps ?

Set an offset voltage, when speed step kicks in your core voltage should drop below 1v, thus reducing temps.

You need to calculate it, find your vid via coretemp, then minus your core voltage from that and you have the offset to use.

Thanks. Working fine. Not the huge drop in idle temps I had hoped for. About 2/3°C. I ran IBT to check everything ramped up ok and it did, and was stable, so it's all good. :)
