I upped the multi on my 2500k to 43...

Cpuid reads 4.3ghz, voltage is sitting just over 1.3v.

Ive never touched voltage or anything in bios. I just upped Multi.

Now I just did the same to my friends PC as he was asking, and his Cpu idles with a multi at 16, then when running prime it jumps to the desired. Ie. 40/43

Why does mine never sit low?

Well did you check in your current Bios CPU settings if Speedstep or EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology) is enabled/diabled?

I will now, I was sure it woulda been on as default. I only changed multi.

Am I better off keeping it on though yeah?

A total guess as iv'e never played with the second/third gen i's but from the post it sounds like you locked the multi. Is there any setting that will allow the cpu to auto manage the cpu multi while still speccing the max multi of your choice?

If your using High performance power plan in windows it does not allow Speed step to initialise. Check your power plan.
