Hi

Ive been looking at overclocking my pc and just been having a little look around the bios etc and downloaded the relevent tools (cpu z,coretemp,prime95) and ive noticed my cpu speed is always at 2.9 on my i7 930. now i know i have turbo boost and speedstep on so im not sure why its doing this. Ive made sure nothing is running. im using a rampage 3, hopeing to overclock my system to 4.00ghz this weekend but this has made me slightly weary. speedsteps just an energy saver anyway right?

cheers if anyone can help me :)

You may want to go into your Windows power saving options and failing that go into the CPU section of the BIOS and see if EIST (speedstep) is enabled.

Yes, speedstep is just an energy saving feature - it shouldn't be a problem having it off. It will just mean the cpu won't downclock itself when it is not being used - which uses less power and produces less heat.
