SpeedTest inconsistencies?

Hey guys,

I have finished my move to my new home. I am using FTTP BT Fibre..and getting some strange readings from SpeedTest..

Tried it this morning, getting around 50-60 mbps DL and 50 mbps UL, then when retrying I can get readings of around 280 mbps DL and 50 mbps UL..:confused:

I went on Steam and downloaded a game, and was getting around 35 mbps which is decent..

But anyway..why is there so much fluctuation on ST?

Unless the speedtest server is on your ISP’s core network, then you are at the mercy of 3rd party peering. Changing server, how you connect to the router (Wi-Fi=BAD), how busy that particular speedtest server’s load, anything else using your connection etc. will all affect your results.

Are you choosing the same test server every time?

Whoops, I have just let it auto connect to servers, never thought about consistency on my end LOL

Yeah, will stick to real telemetries from games downloading and streaming etc..i just get anal about speeds, temps, fps and all that **** LOL :(

Auto simply relies on ping, ping is not always a good indicator of actual throughput. For example the auto routes me to a local server that always benches low. What’s actually important to me is my own test server in London, I can pull my max line speed from that no problem at all, ironically I get better speed results from servers in France and Germany than my ‘auto’ option.
