I've just bought a Speedtouch ST585v6 :) Currently it is running software release: 6.2.17.5. However, which firmware is classed as the 'best' one to be running for stability and performance?

Seem to be getting quite a few CRC and HEC errors in just 10hrs :(

Also trying to work out the telnet commands in order to setup QoS and force static IPs for particular MAC addresses on our network :)

Any help much appreciated :)

Get a better modem, I had a 585 and they are far better modems out there.

-> Netgear DG834GT
-> Billion 7300G
-> 3Com 3CRWDR200A

I'm afraid the 7300G is terrible in comparison, I replaced it with the 585 :p Not sure on the other models but at the bargain price of £21 delivered you can't really go wrong. I've seen lots of recommendations for this model so it must be up for the job :)

You can set static IP's via the config web pages -> Home Network-> Devices ->select device -> configure -> Tick "Always use the same address:"

Job done

Your CRC are nothing I get loads. but then I do use DMT tool to tweak the SNR ;)

i guess i love the 7300G so much since it gives the best sync's on the worst lines. Other than that its a firmware isnt super friendly, but it stable and strong on bad lines.

Re the Netgear DG834GT, it is very good, even the 3COM.

That almost works but for some reason it is giving my main machine a .64 rather than .100 :o The other machines it worked fine for: .101, .102 but just mine :(

I think I need to read up regarding DMT tweaking. I currently get a 8128kbps connection so no problems there...but do tell more :)

I ran into problems with static IP address and the Billion loved to assign the same IP to new devices, bizarre. Other than that it was pretty stable apart from the odd random restart or loss of the connection :(

DMT is for tweaking the SNR, basically to fool the ISP server that you have a better line so to give you a faster speed. Since youa re at MAX anyway it prolyl won't do anythign for you. For me it improves my Speed from ~3.8 -> 5.6 so a reaonable improvement.

TBH I realyl wouldn't worry about the CRC errors - it prolly general transmission errors that you get anyway. I get that number on my internal wireless network
