Can anyone help me with my router woes?
My Speedtouch v585 routers is driving me a little bit mental at the moment.
It has been working fine for ages but now has started to mess me around and I don't really know where to start with it.
The set up is quite simple
I have my main computer connected directly to the router with a network cable.
There is another network cable routed through to my bedroom to the uplink port on a Dlink network hub to which I have connected both an original xbox and an Xbox 360.
The Xbox has a static ip address set and works fine. The 360 was having problems when I first set it up using DCHP, it could see the network but the router was not allowing it to see the outside work. In the end I had to set a static ip address and eventually the router allowed it to see the outside world and now it's working fine.
I also have a WDTV Live connected with a network cable which seems to work fine too.
Also connected, via wireless are my netbook and my phone.
My phone (HTC Desire z) I had to manually setup, inputting a static ip address, and entering all the gateway addresses and DNS addresses as using DCHP it would connect to the network fine but not see the internet.
The netbook has been working fine since the day I got it, over a year ago, using DCHP until last night when I switched it on and got a "limited or no connectivity" message. I clicked on the properties to try to repair the connection and it failed when trying to renew the ip address.
After I switched the router and netbook off and back on, the netbook connected fine again.
This morning to give it a test again, I booted up the netbook and again got the "limited or no connectivity" message and no internet connectivity.
I switched off the router again and once again the connection problems went away.
Now, I don't have a huge amount of networking knowledge (just enough to get things running when everything goes right really), so please bare that in mind, but from my use of commonsense, it seems to me that the DCHP part of the router is failing after some period of time.
When I was trying to set my phone up to use the wireless, it would connect to the network but have no internet connectivity, if I switched the router off and back on it would work for a little while but leaving it over night, and trying in the morning it failed again, the same seems to be happening now with the netbook.
The problem is clearly something to do with the router right?
I could setup a static ip address for the laptop which will probably work but in an ideal world I'd like to get DCHP working properly as at the moment I have had to set a static ip address on my phone which means I can't connect to the wireless network at work, or anywhere else which uses DCHP.
Does anyone have anything thoughts about what the problem might be (id the DCHP crashing, or just deciding that something isn't right or something?) and how I might get it working?
Ideally I would like to avoid having to buy a new router if possible!
Thanks in advance.
