Mk5 Golf Gti. You can not go wrong with your budget and it potentially meets the criteria. :)

There was a lovely pirelli 58' plate on the VW approved used website a few weeks ago with all the extras you want and DSG with about 20k miles on it. Was a cracking buy for someone at £13999. ;)

I don't understand why if you have 'things to pay for' you would willingly spaff a further £5-6k unnecessarily because you want something newer. Surely if finances are stretched which you would suggest then getting as much car for as reasonable £ as possible would be your main interest.

Either way I switched off when I saw £15.5K and Corsa in the same sentence.

I had things to pay for 3-4 years ago not last week hence why the Z4M/VXR8 went.

You obviously got through this far! :p
Looking at current prices i would say a £15.5k Corsa would be worth circa £10k in 3 years. To "only" lose £5.5k in 3 years on a pretty new car would be pretty good.

In 3 years time the Corsa will be an old shape car surely, it'll be worth considerably less than £10k. You would be doing very well to only lose £5k in 3 years on a nearly new Corsa.

Why are people always so hostile? The forum as a whole is only trying to offer advice.

On many occasions this forum has saved some people some very large amounts of money and pain. If you're unwilling to even read the advice that people offer then perhaps posting a thread is not a wise thing to do.

Why not?
The Astra Nurburgring which is the old shape Astra still holds good money (£11-12k) and you could get it new for £17k in 2008 (i did).

The Corsa is a list price of £22k with people paying £19k new at best, i would rather pick up one a few months old with a few hundred or thousand miles on the clock for £15k-ish.

I'm not being hostile, as i said i'm open to suggestions and can weigh up the pitfalls of buying new and i'm fully aware that older cars are cheaper.

Sorry if it came across otherwise, i respect other peoples input and view.

ok its a little older and has a few more miles then you want but this is so much more car for the money

this one is a nice spec, nice engine,

This post didn't get the attention it deserved so I'll agree abd quote it.

These have to be better options than anything else suggested (although strangely on a par with the ED30 ;))
