Spending £100-150, looking at 1070ti/1080ti - can I do equivalent performance new?

As per the subject really, if I am putting this in a system that's currently got a 970 inside and I am nervous about buying 2nd hand, is there anything I can buy new that comes close to the performance of a 1070ti/1080ti?

Thank you all.

There is nothing new under £250 matching GTX1080 performance. You can try luck on high street retails with used 8GB GTX1080 for £155 which comes with 2 years of warranty.

A GTX 1080 is similar to a 6600 or 2060, but you won't get them for £150 (around £180-£190 if you get some cashback, or whatever).

A 1080 Ti is more like a 6600/6650 XT.

A 1650 or RX 6500 XT are within your budget new, but both are a big step down from the 6600 / 1080 level and are not really worth buying from what you have.

I don't believe I can mention here due to policy, however it's a reputable buy/sell retailer almost every neighbourhood and online.

I feel you buddy, thank you.

Understood on all counts mate thank you. Going down this rabbit hole of modern parts selection (I have recently got a desk at home for the first time in ages and am putting my old PC back into service) I am in two minds now about the merits of upgrading vs beginning again. This is good food for thought - certainly plenty of reading to do, thank you.

what products are you talking about there pal? So I can potentially track this movement......

I'd imagine that card is the 7600 16GB.

The 8GB version is £250 or so. Think the release price of the 16GB version is $329 but I haven't seen any UK pricing yet myself.

If I remember correctly it has a 31/01 Launch but worth double checking.

7600XT, a slightly overclocked 7600 with 16GB instead of 8GB - It'll likely be £250-£300 though.
8GB 7600s can be had for ~£230 (although I got mine with a discount code on the bay for £215) and are a couple of percent slower than a 4060.

For £150, used is your best bet but with no members market access you play the bay/gumtree etc lottery. A 6600 would be great and used is just about your max budget.

As mentioned, the GPU market is just messed up nowadays :(

As above. Stock is plentiful already without the new 7600 being released so price reductions may happen. The current cost of the 6600 is near the same as it was about a year ago IIRC, maybe longer.

You could always throw in an offer for this one.

Use this link to offer as i can't see a thread for B-grade GPUs.

Okay buddies I have arrived at some conclusions on the basis of budget.

But - bearing in mind I’m upgrading a GPU here - what would be the most GPU it would be reasonable to pair with a 6700K? I am fairly confident the 1070ti level isn’t twiddling its thumbs waiting for the CPU, but how high end can I go whilst that’s still true??
