Spent a bit of time playing with mini home studio thingy

Well, had the day off, but could see it was going to be cold, and I didn't feel like venturing out so got myself a little home studio thing for macro and small object photography.

I realise there is nothing particularly exciting subject-wise. Just taking the time to learn more about my equipment.

You have reminded me to get some cardboard, black paint and do this myself.
I really like #4, you got the lighting spot on, I take it was external flash?

I picked this mini studio thing up on Amazon for £30.

Am quite pleased with it. It folds up very easily into it's carry bag and takes up no room, and had 4 different coloured backdrops

The "tripod" is not very strong though, and while it will just about manage my nx1000 with the 60mm macro, putting the 18-200 zoom on is a complete no go.

All were taken with just long exposures and no flash. Still need to do some experimenting on using flash effectively.

4 is nice and makes me regretting not buying one whilst in Chichen Itza

Picked this one up at Coba. Reason we went there is that it was one of the few (or only one) you could actually still climb. It has not been restored like Chichen Itza though.

Views from the top were amazing, but damn was it hot!

Please feel free to criticise the others that aren't so good guys. Especially composition. I struggle with finding the best angle, placement, etc of subjects.

The orchids were a royal pain to get good detail from though as they are so damn tiny! Still, they will be here for some time so will get more chances to try...

After more than a week with gout and being unable to do pretty much anything for photos, decided to have another play with home studio last night, using flash in conjunction with the studio lights.

From dozens of photos, this is about the best I could get, which isn't much good. Just looks unnatural.

Going to take me a while to learn how to light things well indoors.
