Ok,
I have my decks all set up with my Numark DXM09 mixer Spec here: http://www.numark.com/dxm09

I have recently added a CDj (Denon DNS1000) and I was happy until I had a thought of PC Djing.

I bought a new Laptop, Dell XPS1530 and copied all my music over from my desktop PC and I bought the EM-U 0404 USB sound card / Audio interface.
http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?category=610&subcategory=611&product=15185

There are three main things I want to do with this set up:

1.) Record all my vinyl to Mp3
2.) Record my mixing attempts:p
3.) A spot of PC Dj ing.

The thing is....I can't figure out how to hook the EM-U to the mixer, it has no phono connections for outputs ? And my Mixer only has Phono inputs (Line and Phono) ??
The EM-U has Balanced sockets, but my mixer only has these as outputs...I don't think the data can travel both ways?

So, the picture is like this:

Laptop--------[USB]----->EM-U----??? Mixer

I have spent around £900 and I must be missing something ?

Advice most welcome guys:o

does your card has rca outputs? or even the normal minijack would be fine
http://www.8dim.com/img/hardware/mini-jack-rca.jpg

connect that to the card (like you would connect your speakers if you didnt have the mixer) and then to the mixer (on the 3rd channel for example)
hey Noufas, thanks for the reply.

I don't think it has RCa outputs, it has S/Pdif, Midi (no use here) a headphone socket and the balanced outputs using 1/4 jacks, these would be fine as mixer outputs but not sound card out put??...I also have 1/8 headphone jack which slits into 2 to Phono-phono plugs (red and white) I might try that....it just doesn't seem right to me, I am scared I wil make something go BANG !!!

Excellent guys thank you so much, I was wondering if I had bought the wrong card....I will order the shortest possible, I think 1.5M is the shortest,,,go for best quality ?
I will report back with pics and a review when I get it all up and running:cool:

well I bought the detailed leads above and hooked them up...no joy.
I can no longer play any Mp3 files in Windows media player either...Default sound unit (the 0404) cited as the problem....this is getting a little frustrating now :(

Hey Simisker, thanks for the reply.

The files in Windows media player just don't play, they flash and a red cross appears in front of the file name and then an error dialog box flashes up.
This is with the latest Vista drivers and software from the EM-U site.

I bought 2 of the 1/4inch Jack to Phono leads

and hooked them up tot the L & R outputs on the EM-U unit the other end I placed into the Line input of my mixer.

The EM-U was correctly listed as a device in device manager or when you go into Audio in control panel. There was no sound coming from the laptop at all when I hooked up the sound card it only worked when I disabled the device.

I have followed the manual and I just can't seem to get going :(

I will do it all again from scratch and take some pics and see if it helps, can it be that even the latest Vista drivers are problematic ?
Or am I not supposed to be able to play music direct from Media player through my mixer ? Perhaps its a software thing and I need to assign channels in a dj software system ?

Finally sorted this out last night.
Turned out that the onboard sound drivers wiere conflicting with the EM-U vista drivers.
Removed them and rebooted, installed EM-U software again and hey presto !!
Majic.

Now for some DJ PC software to bang out some Tunes !! :D
