Been meaning to post this for a while. We have lots of these in our garden, just wondering what they are. I'm guessing at cupboard spider or false black widow. We also have tons of Tube Web spiders (Some that were as big as a house spider but a heck of a lot fatter), but they are like my personal army, they stay outside and don't let any other spiders get inside my house. I'm not sure about the ones in the photos.

How do people get them to stay so still? I swear if I put one in a jar, it would climb straight back out.

It's partly why I won't capture one with my hands as I don't trust them not to run off at fast speed once I get near. I had to take one out last night but captured it in a glass to do so.

Looks preggers too. If you don't get rid of it you'll have millions of the tiny bassids running around your house.

Never seen one in the house and I've been renovating for 4 years, but that could be the Tube Webs keeping them out. So they could be Cave spiders. They are friendly enough. Although looking at the False Widow picture from the link above there are some that look like the ones with smaller abdomens. Double although... Ive seen them hanging around in the day light.
I'll have to keep an eye out for their webs, but they don't seem to have any.

huh? as in they wave and say hello as you walk by? or is it more just a smile and nod of the head? :p

Heh. If I stand out side and whistle a song or two they all climb up me, sit on my out stretched arms and join in. But in reality they don't bite when handled unlike the Tube Webs who, once uncovered (and probably not happy about it) rear up as soon as you get near.

Just your friendly neighbourhood spider, man

We get loads of daddy long legs around here, clear them all out and in a few days some new blighters have moved in. Also got a big house spider which guards the garage door, seems to do a good job at keeping the bugs out although looks like another fought for its territory and lost as the corpse was left outside its web (like a stay away sign :p ).

Also have loads of harvestmen bugs, they are weird things.

Wouldn't that just be where she shed her skin?
