So Raimi and Maguire are leaving the franchise and they are going to reboot it, I know Spider-Man 3 sucked but a reboot already are they mad?

A reboot is not a bad idea, I was never a huge fan of the films to begin with so if they do something different I may well enjoy them like I enjoyed XMen.

Though they need to keep Kirsten Dunst as she is HOT :)

Glad they are ditching McGuire, have never liked his acting much. I would love to see the movies take a darker turn, close to what Spider-Man 3 did but without being utterly horrible.

These bits worries me... "taking the web slinger’s alter ego, Peter Parker, back to high school" & "put the focus back on a teenager grappling with normal teen problems"

So they've given it a name? Constant pointless remakes of films are now called "reboots"? Do they think that's going to make it acceptable, and in such it'll pass by people undetected?

I wish people would stop bleeding things dry, it completely devalues any previous successes the franchise may have made and cheapens it.

edit - oh and LOL, not 1 new film but 3!

It will use a script by James Vanderbilt

maybe disney could do the reboot and get zac efron to be spider man

I read somewhere that he is one of the early front runners for the role, besides don't Disney actually own Marvel now, it's just that most of the main characters are tied to certain studios for so many films/years.

Oh dear. This will be awful!

Sony still own Spiderman iirc.

I think Sony may own the rights to make films, but they certainly don't own the rights to Spiderman. Disney do now since they bought Marvel.

Entertainment giant Walt Disney is to buy Marvel Entertainment in a shares and cash deal valued at $4bn (£2.5bn).

The deal means Disney will take over ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters, such as Spider-Man and the X-Men.

You joke.....

Seriously, why are they doing this? The Hulk reboot didn't work either. Supposedly Fantastic Four was rumored to be rebooted aswell.

Spiderman 3 made a truck load of money so its not like people disliked the Maguire version.

As I recall, the original option was for 6 films, so it's not a wonder that they're producing another 3 films.

Still, I'd have sooner see it wither on the vine than be rebooted. Spiderman was good. Spiderman 2 was amazing. Spiderman 3 was rubbish. Let's stop there.

Having read through that I have to say I hate the idea of going back to the start, the first film covered all of that

The new X-Men film can get around that as it was never touched on in the first film but we've seen all this already

It's gonna suck IMO
