Just putting a new cooler on my graphics card when the syringe went pop, sending AS5 (or something like it) all over the core and surround area. I used an old credit card to scoop as much off, then loads of alcohol die cleaner to try and remove it from the surrounding area.

I'm left with a big silvery mess, will this be a problem? I can clean most of it off, but the bits around the resistors won't budge. I take it TIM isn't conductive, but what about ethanol?

You need to get that stuff out of the transistors etc. before booting, it is conductive as far as I'm aware. You need to clean the core thoroughly until it's spotless like factory condition then try applying your thermal compound again, it's just not worth the risk to leave even a bit on any metallic parts.
