So i spilt tea on my PC this morning. Instant shut down and tripped the entire fuse box in the house.

Found a pool of tea on my sound card and graphics card. Dried it out with kitchen roll and I'm not leaving it to air dry.

Rang up home insurance and i have to wait 24 hours before i make a claim.

Anyone experienced this or something similar? Anything important i should do for home insurance? Are the cards buggered?

Get some distilled and de-ionized water and clean all the components. Then dry em for a week. Should work.

CLaim insurance regardles -> ???? -> Profit.

Strange as it sounds did you have sugar in your tea?

Yeah 1 tea spoon.

Not too sure how insurance works. They said on the phone to wait 24 hours, then if its still not working ring up and give a statement, then they'll send some guy around to confirm my statement and then they'll either replace it or give us market value for the computer.

I know dealing with insurance companies you have to make sure you jump all the hoops or they'll find 1 small thing to refuse payment.

Personally i would not do anything until the guy has been round to look at the damage. Otherwise they may cite it as a reason not to pay up.

Once they have confirmed it as broken then try to salvage any working components.

+1, all they want is money(like any other company), just leave to dry it out, until the guy comes

Ok so the PC has booted up, I've re-enabled my 4.8ghz over clocked and ran all 3 tests of prime95 for 20mins and it seems pretty stable.

Going to run something to stress the GPU in a minute.

I had 1 sugar in my tea and googling around sugar "can" corrode electronics, so what am i looking at here?

2 weeks and everything will blow up?

With the sugar its possible it could break down at some point in the near future unless you wash everything with deionized water as mentioned, you should check this with the insurance company to make sure you could till make a claim later on regarding the incident, might not be able to in which case wash everything. Did your PSU not blow or anything, very lucky there.

If your claiming on insurance make sure you get quotes for todays equivalent of your parts, not what you paid when you bought them.
I'm not sure about PC's but with fishing tackle the insurance company try to knock your quote down a bit, they mention "Cash and your local shop" or did with me and mine, I added an extra rod to counter them and we broke even.
