Bit bored at the office and noticed a fine representation of human society across the street spitting like a 'hard' man every 10-15 seconds as if we were on a farm.

I can appreciate the need for a good old spit every now and then when the time calls for it but this seems a little silly.

Do people recognize this as a genuine problem with the person or is this just a bad habit that 'rains' down on our streets and should be dealt with?

Personally I think it is a disgusting habit. I don't do it and neither should anyone else. Need to spit? do it in a hanky or a wipe, or even go to the toilet.

It's a disgusting habit. Gob into your hand or a tissue, or something like that if you have to. Should be made to lick it up and or face an £80 fine if caught in public. I'm sure that Boris will endorse this view.

Yea I hate it when people just randomly do it (mainly smokers or chavs).

But I do love it personally when I bring up a big ball of snot and spit it out, feels good.

A filthy, disgusting habit.

Just no real need for it.

Totally, except for very few occasions, such as when you're excercising and knackered. Which shouldn't mean on a football pitch! The only time I spit is when I've gone for the yearly jog and all the phlegm comes up... ;) spitting spit is just stupid!

I'm a smoker and have never felt the compunction to spit because of it. It's just uncouth prats that do it.

It's absolutely disgusting, hopefully the £70 fine they are going to introduce in a borough of London for spitting on the street will be enforced throughout the country. No need to spit like that whatsoever, the amount of women I see do it is appalling.

I can honestly say I have never had the need to spit in my entire life. I don't understand why people spit in the street either. I find it pretty backwards and not something a person of the modern age should do unless there's a medical issue involved.

I think it's vile, repugnant, and also rude. There is no need to do it in society at all. Footballers set such a bad example there I'm afraid.

The only times I've had to spit, is when cycling/on a bike or running and swallowed a bug. Or when I received a knee/hand/head/part of the body to my face when playing rugby.

I also find throwing up and other bodily excretions in public places abhorrent.

I've from time to time had to spit something out in the drain, swallowing phlegm isn't nice. So like having a cold for example.

But I would generally avoid spitting into the street, and use a tissue if I really must spit something out, outdoors.
