Splicecom and VLANs

Anyone got any experience of Splicecom phones as looking to get the VLAN 802.1q sorted, but trying to work out where the tagging is done, DHCP scope option or each individual phone.

Got the phone system sat on the network in a /16 setup and not VLAN'd - crap, but something I've inherited. There are QOS issues... Stuttering and that jazz.. :(

I've found out you can currently only do it on a per phone basis, they are looking at doing it via DHCP scope options in the future.

So you config the CPU VLAN as the tagged VLAN ID and the PC Port as the untagged?
 
Can you remember in the call manager server has to sit on the same VLAN as the phones? I'm expecting is has to due to the way it multicasts.

If so looks like I'll have to raise an outage to change the IP addresses and VLANs of the call manager and modules

OK what I was expecting, bugger. Oh well change request coming for a weekend on site moving the call manager and modules to the VOIP VLAN, re-ip and then telnet onto circa 200 phones change their VLAN config. If their wasn't PCs hung out the back of the phones I'd just make the VOIP VLAN on the switch the native.

its seems such a good idea to use the switch in the phone but it causes this sort of pain further down the line.

Yup clarification over what the configs are, which phones are daisy chaining and so forth.

The reality is the network isn't in a great shape :( NFS, iSCSI, vMotion, VOIP, in fact everything on the same subnet / VLAN - rubbish. "the stock answer, /16 network and it'll be fine...." :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

I work for an in house IT, but sorting out previous stuff..

Apparently they've been having this issue for 2 years so been giving some people analogue phones again - really!?!

Got prob another 5 sites to look at and unravel. Default answer /16 but hang on there are only 50 devices on this network... /16!! WTF :(

I've been asked what I'd do for the NFS SANs and ESXi servers attaching.. errr prob /28 - responses, they don't like that... I'm all for carving up as much as possible, adds security if you get the ACLs in place too.
 
Certainly the core switch does, not sure if all the edge switches do. Also not sure is splicecom does.
 
What switch are you using and what VLAN configuration have you done on the switch?

What config do you have on the phone that you've done via SSH on the phone?

telnet onto the phone via it’s IP address.
Login with password details stored in diag/7388 - I believe default
Enter the following command
setnet
Do you wish to change any of the configuration [y/n] : y

Current settings (if present) will be displayed.

Check that the phone is working correctly

You put in whatever the untagged van is for the port (native) in Cisco speak.

In a perfect world VLAN 1 is disabled.

Can remember if that HP switch is L3.

Out of interest are you able to post config from switch?

Sh run for SSH session, not that I think switch is the issue.

Are the phone controllers in phone VLAN?
 
What VLAN is the PC in then?

All makes sense re switch :)

Sh run on procurves I use, but Switch OS not up to date.
 
No if I recall. You need to put the PC VLAN tag to the same as the untagged port, so if untagged at VLAN 5 then set phone PC VLAN 5.

Hate the phones due to have to telnet on, thankfully install Cisco phones in business where config is much easier
 
Test it, but that's what I recall. I was told they were going to be able to do VLAN option via DHCP with firmware update, but not sure.

Phones are bloody expensive compared with Cisco handsets. I hate splicecom solution, thankfully at a business unit that I don't car about at mo.
 
When I did the config on the HP Procurve last year, but high model, yes I marked the VLAN for voice.
