splinter cell problem

i just bought and installed splinter cell- double agent but every time i try to run it it crashes displaying a box that says-trying to set non registered vertex shader. i ran the hardware detection that came with the game and it said that my system meets the minimum specs to run the game , except for a big red cross next to-shader model 2,000000. then it says it needs shader model 3.0 or higher.
is there anything i can do about this or would i need to get a better grfx card to run this game? i hope not as i`m a bit skint at the moment, but if this is the only solution could someone suggest a card that would run it,to replace my current card-ATI radeon 9800xt? preferably one that wouldn`t cost to much.
thanks in advance

Bad news im affraid, its an SM3 game only so you will have to get a new card boss. Think 7900 or 1900 should run it ok, havent bought it yet to tell you otherwise

Some people in the DA Forum are hoping for a patch that will allow it to run with SM 2.0 but a lot say it wont happen. I have SM 3.0 but its pretty much unplayable for me due to all the bugs. If you bought a new card it may not be playable so its a risk you take I guess. Hopefully a patch will sort out a lot of the problems.

are shader models something that can be updated like drivers or are they a hardware part of the individual graphics cards? sorry but not very well up on video cards! or much else come to think of it! :)

Wouldn't bother tbh - i'm a massive fan of SC but the latest is just awful. Buy an earlier release if haven't already.

What specs have people got this running on? I've got the game (yet to be opened) is anyone running on the same sorta spec?

X2 3800
2Gb PC3200
X1800XT 512mb

You would need a new graphics card.
Nvidia 6800 or above
ATI X1800 or above

Also, running at high settings requires 2Gb ram or it'll be jumpy

exact same spec mate,

X2 3800+
2GB PC3200
X1800XT 512MB
X-Fi Fatality

It runs alright, but the bugs are a pain. I set it to 1690x1050 by editing an ini somewhere and turned HDR off and AA to 4x (only changes to the defaults that i made). It runs smooth, but as I said - gameplay bugs make it a royal pain in the backside. It's probably best to wait for a patch, but no idea when that'll come.

I'm on v1.01.

Afraid not, only Nvidias 6 series and up, and ATi's x1k range can run it, why they made it SM3.0 only is beyond me, as surely they are missing out on a huge market still, as surely theres a lot of x8 series etc... card owners out there still.

sorry, its probably another daft question but do you mean 2Gb ram on the card or system memory?

he means 2GB of system memory. I have the game and its full of all sorts of bugs. The multiplayer is good though except when it crashes. Im only running 1GB of ram and the single player is playable (until the bugs come to hand) at high setting but 2GB will definatly help.
