Splinter Cell / Thief / Hitman?

I never tried any of the Hitman games - I assume that there is a lot of killing, don't get me wrong I have played through a lot of FPS's and killed my share of baddies but that is one of the things I like best about Thief and Splinter Cell.

You can play the games without killing anyone - the trusty blackjack to the back of the head in Theif and grabbing people and knocking them out in S/C, then obvioulsy hiding the unconcious bodies in the shadows. It makes it more fun IMHO, just walking in and killing eveyone (not that it is possible to do that in Theif) is not as much fun.

I think I pleayed through all of the games in each series (only done the demo of DA so far - waiting for the promised patch) without killing anyone that I absolutely had to. In the original S/C I definately only had one kill (right at the end of the game when you have to assassinate someone).

I still like FPS's and will shoot anything that moves but I think that these games are a different level and the 'killing' feels more intimate and therefore 'wronger'.

Anyone else play like this?

i know what you mean but its just a game so if you're playing as a hitman then you'd be expected to do kills if you see what i mean.

Sorry kiddos, but Thief 3 IS NOT Thief ;)
Nothings quite right, things just jar every so often with the established mythology etc.
Play all the way through Thief 2, then download & install the expansion pack (Unoficcial- 13 more missions, over 650 megs)

If you've played SC1 & DA. Why not play PT & CT as well?
Despite the flack Splinter Cell is getting in this thread. ;), it remains one of the best stealth games out.
Thief is a better 'old' stealth game, but for 'modern day' set games, Splinter Cell is great. The AI in it, and the usage of shadows, are far better than Thiefs imo.

May play PT but i'm not sure yet :p

theif was ok... but the games never really sat with me.. robbing ppl awesome... fighting zombies wtf!

Loved the first couple of splintercell games, wasn't quite good/patient enough to complete the games with only 1 kill but i did ok, it is better to play the game comepletely stealthy if u can

as for the hitman... u have to play these games stealthy.. as for a hitman ** guy cant shoot for ****! :) seriously all of the weapons except the sniper rifle have to be used at point blank if u plan on hitting anything

huh? i never had any problem with hitman (well, hitman 2 mainly) like that. in fact i found it too easy to just kill everyone, especially the last level where you get to your shed and inside you have shedloads of weapons* (cos i actually did go for silent assassin or whatever in the end and got most of the special bonus weapons)

as for thief, they're great, not too keen on the 1st one and didn't get very far, the second was awesome and played it twice in succession, and will probably dig it out soon to replay. not too keen on 3 to begin with, but soon got into the swing of it (playing through currently) and it's just as good, if not quite as scary.
*bad joke i know

ahahahahaha. It's not really scary at all.... until.... no I cant. Just you wait ! ;)

Really enjoy splinter cell but the thief series poos all over it. I know it's not a stealth 'em up but for some reason i must mention system shock 2, it's so creepy it makes you hide even though you dont need to, i catch myself playing it like thief :D

Not true. :)

Hitman has that very same style of play you like. You could just kill everyone in the level if you wanted, but you can also try to "perfect" the level by not getting seen, and killing no-one but your target, which the game rewards you for. Each level is specifically designed so that there's at least one way of completing it like this.

All too much. I completed the first Splinter Cell three times. First time killing normally, second time not killing anyone, and third time trying to sneak past everyone without even knocking them out. :o

Ghosting eh? I was never that serious but thought that if I got through a level only dealing out a few sore heads then that was good enough for me.

From what you say I should probably give Hitman and try. Where would you recomend starting? Just jump in with Blood Money or from the original?
