So, my copy of Split Second arrived today (from an online retailer).

Quite good, bit like Burnout Revenge as a game type. Shame you can't "Slam" people like in Burnout, it has to be done with a "powerplay".

Anyone else playing it yet?

I did look for an "official" thread, but I could only see the demo thread.

Got mine today and actually quite enjoying, plays differently to the demo. I'm liking the different game types. Elimination is so tense, where the last player gets blown up every 30 seconds or so. Real battle to stay ahead.

Time challenge and Regular races are good crack too. Yet to try it online though, and I'm only playing it because UKmail are bloody useless and couldn't find their rear end with both hands!! (RDR order took a wrong turn and ended up in bloody Nottingham, Nottingham is NOT in Scotland )

Has anyone else been playing this? I'm pretty surprised that only two people in here have played the game but I guess it was only released a few days ago.

I've just ordered mine and should be playing it in a few days.

anyone had any extended play time with this yet? i havnt even tried the demo but ive heard its great the first time you see it all but downhill from there?

Actually it was the opposite for me, gets better the more I play it. Has that "Just one more go" quality.

Yep, I've played nothing else since it arrived.
Really enjoying it.

Tried one online go, but wanna play single player first to unlock some better cars.

Haven't played Red Dead Redemption yet because this turned up on rental, much more enjoyable than the demo with some spectacular set pieces.

Very polished in its presentation too.

Yeah the novelty and freshness loses it's appeal afterwards, especially when there really isn't a lot of tracks to play with and once you memorise certain Powerplay spots to use for your advantage or to avoid, but the beauty of that is the intensive strategical play. The split paths and roadways that can change parts of a course adds to the randomness as well.

I'm glad that this game has a PC port as well because since this platform has been missing a lot of weapons-based (Well kind of in this one!) racing games. I mean it's kind of like Race Driver: GRID, but with explosions and stuff.

How do you all think it compares to Burnout Paradise?

Has anyone tried a 360 controller with Split Second?

Well Burnout Paradise is an open-world game whereas Split/Second is a standard arcade racer similar to GRID, but with some fun Hollywood action movie-esque explosions which you get to trigger at certain points along the courses.

And 360 controller should be no problem.

Just got my copy and I have to say this is one hell of an addictive game.

When I'd heard people discussing the powerplay concept I had imagined some gimmick feature that would produce a boring elimination of a racing opponent. I didn't realise that powerplays were the actions to cause the planes to land on the track, buildings to fall, lorries flying through the air and altering the course. I figured those would be a random occurance.

Someone on here said it perfectly, it has that "just one more race" factor about it.

Second Power Play button is for use in certain areas if you are lucky to get it before anyone else and if you can do it at the right time. They are to trigger the bigger explosions that will make changes to the course i.e. blow up a bridge, make an underground route, drive over or inside an aircraft carrier etc.

I'm absolutely loving Split Second.

I think they've got it just right, it's a fun arcade style racer with some really new concepts. The destructibility of the course is not the only big deal, there are so many different race types from barrel eliminations to dodging Apache missiles.

One of the big factors in this game is how fast your racing position can change, which can make it aggravating but makes the win so much more ecstatic.

I'm really impressed by the graphics too, they aren't clean cut like GRID but they use a lot of hig res color and shaky power cam effects that work really well.

Here's a few screen shots:

Anyone tried the 'Detonator' track in the Midway Pass season yet?

Trying to beat 1:20:00 is rock solid but the track is easily the best I've seen yet... and I'm only half way.

Jeez, this is one of those weeks. Nice one Bez... i mean you could have emailed me that instead of revealing my mental absence but thanks anyway. ;o)
