I am moving house and taking my virgin Media service with me. The property I am moving to only has one connection which comes through the front room (from the plastic box) into the dinning room. Is it possible to add a splitter in the front room so I can put my broadband there and leave the existing cable for the TiVo box? If so what type of splitter do I need?

Why wouldn't you get Virgin out to sort it?

Not saying it's a difficult thing, but it's their cabling and equipment and they'll probably sort it nothing and make sure all of the power levels are correct at the same time.

If the OP is moving house then he can get someone to come out and set up the kit, at which point ask them to run the cable to wherever he needs it.

Yep if you want them to do stuff outside of them doing a normal install/repair then they would charge.

When I got virgin installed in my pad I had a single cable coming into the living room from the existing installation.

I made sure I was being suitably nice to the guy and he installed a booster, splitter and I helped him pull the extension for the modem up the wall into the attic, and down into a cupboard in the middle of the house.

Didn't charge a penny and my only excuse for getting it done was that I was worried about the range of the WiFi.

Of course, I promptly started running the hub in modem mode, added my own router and separate APs - but they didn't need to know that I just wanted a networking cabinet in the middle of the house rather than in the living room!

Within *reason* they'll install it wherever you want - as long as floor boards are lifted and it won't over shoot the time available for the install. That said some jobs are booked as a one man when it needs to be two.
