What OS are you running on the laptop and what OS on the PC with a pink square? Other than updating the graphics drivers, I suppose you could try compatibility mode for win95/win98... it does look like a driver-type glitch. The game probably isn't perfectly coded either :p

Try reinstalling the game and updating DirectX?

XP Home on both.

Strange..! I wish I could help more but I don't have any more substantial ideas :confused: I'll have a bit of a stab in the dark though;

You could try setting up a new user to see if some application is starting up and conflicting with the game somehow. Failing that you always have a reformat but it's a bit extreme!

It's hard to tell if it's a hardware or software conflict, but it would be a really weird hardware conflict to put a pink square around the cursor. It means the transparent mask isn't getting applied. I think if it was anything to do with hardware it would be the drivers not the hardware itself, so really it'd still be a software problem, but you've updated the graphic drivers so...

Maybe try a full-on clean and update of your computer - remove unnecessary start-up things (mike lin's startup control panel helps) and update all of your motherboard drivers.

You could try it in safe mode? If it works fine in safe mode then it's definitely some other software that gets loaded which is causing problems, but quite often things run worse in safe mode, so...
