hi peeps, (i apologise if ive posted this in the wrong place)

every time i try to install printer driver for my lexmark 2300 series (x2350) - connected via USB - its says:

spooler service is stopped. do you want to start it as it needs to be running for intallation, to continue.....

so i say yes, and it does nothing.

i try and restart the installation and again.... the same problem.

^^^^ installing from cd

if i do it from the 'add printer' function in windows xp. it just say 'operation could not be completed.

im really confused it was working the other day and all of a sudden its giving me grief

can anyone shed some light on how to solve this problem any help would be much apreciated. :)

Any reinstallation will solve any printer settings problems you may have. I can only think of a few things which may be causing it - something that has gotten stuck in the printer - like a paper jam perhaps, maybe dried up ink, or a dodgy chip or two on your printer. May be worth seeing if the cables you are using are okay.

I hope this helps!

tried all of that. but can any one tell me how to manually start the spooler service as that seems to be what is standing in my way. i have run diagnostics on the pc and everything seems fine
cheers everyone

I think to get into services it's a case of right clicking My Computer, then selecting manage from the menu and then going to the services and applications option on the side where services should be.

I hope this helps!

Ok tried that and it gave me an error message when i tried to start it - Error 1068 the dependancy service or group failed to start - this is way beyond me lol!? any further help greatly appreciated
thanx again

Hmm - the printer may have something very wrong with it...or at least it's software.

Have you got an alternative printer you could try to setup and see if you get the same problem?

Also, it might be worth backing up your important things, and installing windows on top of windows without formatting to see if that does anything. Then reinstalling the printer drivers and software.

I haven't heard of USB ports failing yet. But it might be worth connecting the printer to another USB port and seeing if you get the same problems.

I hope this helps!
