Not really sure why I am posting other than to vent some anger at some really poor software.

I have been battling an odd situation for the last few months where my PC would freeze and the only way to get it back was a hard reset. I have a Ryzen 3700X with 32GB Ram and Radeon 6800 which at the weekends when gaming works flawlessly however during the week when using multiple IDE's for programming for work it would freeze and have to hard reset.

I tried everything, bios settings, more voltage to RAM etc etc and nothing would fix it, the only thing I could work out was that at work I listen to Spotify and when it crashes the sound would become like stuck record. However the crash didn't always happen when playing but always if I had used spotify at all that day.

I have this week uninstalled spotify and use the webplayer instead and its been perfect, not a single issue. How can this software be this bad ? The thing that alluded me to spotify and non of my other apps is that about 8 years ago the exact same thing happened with my macbook pro. Two different OS's and the same catastrophic crash. Seriously poor.

Is that the desktop program or the app store app?

I found I had to turn off hardware acceleration in the advanced options in the Spotify program or it would sometime cause odd issues like stuttery scrolling in Firefox - in fact it doesn't seem to play nice at all if you have hardware acceleration on in both Spotify and Firefox.

I use Spotify extensively and never had it crash though.

Tried both apps. Store and standalone. Same issue and had already been down the hardware acceleration route to no avail. But still not had a problem since uninstalling and using web player. I had the exact same issue years ago on Mac. Almost like it blocks the io and nothing else can function. It's only started a few months back but only solution is uninstalling.

Oh another thought - not sure if it still needs to be done as I've left my installs setup this way but I found awhile back if you don't manually limit Spotify's cache size and/or if it is using dynamic settings it can end up hitting IO at times and using a lot of disc space.

Ok Thanks Rroff, I may try again in a few months when I can stomach playing the hard lockup game :-) been enjoying the PC this last week though where every thing just works :)
