Spotify remote play

Hey guys, i'm aware you are able to remote control spotify from a portable device (iphone/ipad for example) but is it possible to remote control spotify on my iMac with my MBP? My stereo is hooked up to my iMac but it would be nice to be able to change songs when im on the sofa with my MBP.

From what i can see the mobile app will always default to remote play if theres a primary (pc/mac) version of spotify signed in somewhere. Is this purely a mobile app function?
