Spotify & VPN?

Many years ago I signed up for a free Spotify account which I haven't really used much for a while.
Having recently moved to Spain and not having brought out any CDs yet I tried to use Spotify the other day. It wouldn't let me in.
I signed up for a free Hoxx account to see if that would work and Spotify still seems to detect that I am in Spain.
Is this a known limitation, does it apply with a paid-for Spotify account and could I get round it by using the paid-for Premium Hoxx service?
Long term it will not matter because I will get more of my stuff out here.

Maybe need a different VPN as I found a lot dont actually seem to work. I use a paid for one now that does the trick

If you don't mind me asking, what VPN do you use - and do you know if it works with Spotify?
Based on reviews I have just read, ExperssVPN seems to be the favourite.

I use nord. Not had a problem yet, also works for sky, BBC iplayer etc if I'm working away. Tunnel bear is also another one I've used in the past you get a free 500mb per month but they disappear pretty quick.

Nord doesn't work with Spotify where I am. Spotify in general works but when you get certain songs which has videos it will not play them.

Although I have never got involved with Spotiffy, having hundreds of CDs and even more music on MP3 I do wonder why they would limit you to a single country to use their service. What will happen when the day arrives that Scotland and Wales achieve independence?

I have friends who regularly use a VPN to access US TV shows - I'm not sure how but they do it they don't seem to have any problem.
