Spray painting advice needed

I have posted this here and in General Hardware so i hope that is OK.

I need to spray paint a new PCI bracket something like this

Is there anything special i should do first, like rub it down with sandpaper or do i need to buy special spray painrt or will just simple stuff do from a car spares shop, also what about paint lacquer do i need to bother with this any and all advice is welcome.

Degrease it with a little rubbing alcohol, lightly sand to key the surface, apply one coat of primer, lightly sand again and apply your choice of colour, use light coats to build up the finish. A coat of lacquer will help to protect the finish.

Another thing try to remove the connectors from the backplate, if you can't do that then you need to try and cover them up.

OK thanks setter i got some good advise of both you and stulid so i'll go out and get paint, primer and lacquer tommorrow so i can sort it over weekend many thx

Yea everything has been removed so it is just the bare backplate on it's own
