Not sure if this is the right section but guess it's the closest :)

I have an Old Gateway 2000 Anykey Keyboard that I've had for years.. no matter how many times I change my Games Rig I always kept the same keyboard.. I have 2 computers right next to each other, both exactly the same, LCD monitors etc and looks pretty nice.. but this Biege keyboard is beginning to look a bit embarassing in the setup yet for some reason I want to keep it (I changed it for a new one today then put the old one back a couple of hours later)...

Anyway I figure that if I can spray the keyboard it mightn't look too bad.. but here's the point Me = Noob Painter. I've read the Modding guide and seen that the recommendation for a keyboard is flexible vinyl paint.. I would like to spray it Silver (mate finish) but I can't find any Silver flexible vinyl paint only Black etc. Anyone know if Silver is available?? if not I guess I'd be better off going for black ? or are there any other suggestions ?

Next question, does the flexible vinyl paint tend to last a while before getting tarnished/discoloured or should I plan on spraying it again in the near future ?

Thanks

Flexy vinyl paint is the best way to go, and yes there are loads of places that sell it. As for how long does it stay good looking well thats up to you.

What I mean is you will need to take the keyboard to bits first and give it a good scrub to get all dirt off of it. Last time i had to soak my keyboard over night to get some of the crap off of it. Also give it a light sanding with some fine glass paper or some wet n dry paper just to give the paint a good surface to bind on to.

Secondly what are you going to do about the keys? just spray them as they are? i only ask as most keyboards have the letters painted/stuck on to them so if you sprayed them the letters/numbers/functions will disappear.

Now the spraying, make sure the keyboard is completely dry (best way i found is to wrap it in a towel and place it on a radiator over night) before you start. you will need to do 3 or 4 light coats to give the plastic a good finish and it will be harder waring that way too.

Always leave a good 6 to 8 hours for the paint to dry before respraying, and make sure the room is well ventilated and some of the paints you can get are nasty. Also try to keep dust in this room down to a minimum, so no doing it in the shed or hovering and then doing it as the dust will settle on the paint and leave it with an odd finish.

Thanks for the replies and advise guys..

Not sure what to do about the Keys tbh, they are a grey colour so I'm hoping they might actually look OK, failing that I have some old black keyboards in work maybe the keys will fit off those.

I've found a large plastic storage box with lid, so I think I'l spray the keyboard in that and but the lid on it over night to stop dust..

Will have a go soon as I get the paint.
