Hi all, i have a Lian Li silver case that i love and would like to spray it black, its a ally case, any one done this and could give me some pointers?

Ian...

I think you would need a special aluminium primer to paint it, otherwise anodizing is probably the best way to make it black although it would need to be sent off somewhere for the process to be done.

If you do paint it take your time, strip the case down as much as possible and paint it somewhere away from children, animals, dust and wind (preferably) just so you get the best finish without anyone knocking it. I think from what I've read the best way to paint is to go from one side to the other starting from bottom to top covering the surface with an even thin coat, of which you should do 4 - 5 coats for a decent finish.

Should be able to use car metal primer for it. Make sure your in a warm place though, cold will turn the laquer cloudy....and spray top to bottom if you don't want runs.

If you're painting it, i'd recommend lots of really thin coats. When doing some of my ally bike parts for a very unique build I did 4-5 coats of primer, 2 coats of gloss and then about 6 layers of lacquer, rubbing it smooth every coat...

Unless you can get the spray paint cheap with primer, go for powdercoating.

Spray paint is good on smaller things but if you're doing a whole case you'll need quite a few cans.
