Having decided to paint the fence Karate Kid style Im wondering if spraying it is going to be an option as Ive done 6 panels in 2 nights and have another 34 to go...then a second coat...

Ive read mixed reviews but the Ronseal Hand Pump Sprayer from Screwfix seems to be pretty well reviewed? Im not bothered about it lasting and for £17 even if I have to buy 2 it will be worth it as I can see me spending the rest of the summer painting it by hand!

Has anyone used one of these or have any experience of similar things?

The Ronseal fence paint Ive bought says it can be used for brush or sprayer.

Nothing to add here other than I feel your pain. I did 4 panels a few weeks ago, front and back, 2 coats, by hand. Wanted to kill myself by the end of the 3rd panel.

I've not tried spraying myself, but I'm told that while they're OK at spraying your fence they'll also succeed in spraying everything else within a 4 mile radius.

A mate has just sprayed his panels, I think there are 12 of them. Took him just over an hour and a couple of pots of paint (mixed with water).

He said even if he has to do it twice a year at twice the cost, it beats doing it by hand.

Tip: Check wind direction

Yep.

Did the fence at my parents once with a sprayer and it while it does a good job of the fence, plenty gets places other than the fence too.

(Still beat the brush option though! :D )

Thanks for the advice. Luckily most of the fence is pretty much away from anything so I think I'll give the £17 sprayer a go. For the bits near the house I'll do those by hand just in case!

I did about 15 panels last month over the course of a lot of evenings and a few weekends. 4 of which needed 2 coats.

Most had plants growing on or around them so spraying wasn't an option. Suicide was very nearly an option though.

And now, to really seal the deal my neighbours have painted their side (obviously with a sprayer) and have caused massive green drip marks down 5/6 of my freshly blackened panels!!! Furious isn't the word..

The ronseal advert does come to mindhere, where the guy is painting is fence by hand and you can hear his neighbour wetting himself, pokes his head over the neighbours fence to see what's funny to see him spraying the fences at a much quicker pace.

Yeah I was thinking of that very advert after the first two panels! I actually quote enjoyed doing the first 2 but it went downhill fast....

I have used them sprayers and the problem I found was the paint clogging and spluttering, To get it to work enough you have to really dilute the paint which of course means more coats and not as good coverage. Not something I would use again again

Mini roller is your friend
Neighbour sprayed their fence and covered our Windows, soffits and frames in brown specks
All I heard was giggling
Luckily I was in to clean it off before it dried, neighbour the other side had to buy new windows!

Buy new windows? That's a bit extreme isn't it? Not sure i've heard of any paint that wouldn't come off glass.

We have that ronseal sprayer in the first post.Works very well no over-spray,that I have noticed(not excessively anyway)
Having to pump frequently is a bit of a pain...well it was until we modded it:D
connected a compressor to it and it spays at a constant pressure
Tip keep nozzle close to the fence about 4-6 inches:)

I've never found brushing to be a problem. Decant stain of choice into a bucket, 6" brush, tarp on the ground and go mental with said brush. Doesn't take long at all. I have 40' of fence that took all of about 2 hours to do this way (both sides).

This reminds me - I need to do it again soon...

Was on the plastic, and allowed to dry for at least 6 months!
Not my windows, so I don't know whether they'd tried to get it off or not
