Just bought one of these.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=191369068906&view=all&tid=1053649526009

It works a treat. Much safer and easier than messing around with traditional clamp type coil spring compressors.

Was delivered next day too!

And cheap enough to pay for itself even if you only use it once!

(Note, It is "Made in China" so the welding looks like it was done by an infant (Which it probably was!) but it is solid enough. the nut/bolts are also only 4.8 grade (If you believe that) which is only one grade up from cream cheese, but again, it actually seems solid enough (And easy to replace if you are unhappy). It doesn't come with a safety chain so if you buy one of these you might want to consider getting one, but even without one it is orders of magnitude safer than traditional spring compressors)

Hope this helps somebody!

:)

Use a similar sort of thing at work and it beats those normal hand clamp ones hands down. Although ours is more mobile than that and a lot less chunky..

Hi, sorry I was doing other things last night.

Glad somebody sorted the link

Cant understand why it didn't work though, It does for me :(

The problem with the clamp ones is that mostly they do not have the compression range for modern springs (Anybody who has done a front spring on one of the small Citroens will know what I mean)

What is also nice about this is that it is also small/light enough to put in the back of the Van!

Can't use it on/under the car though so traditional ones still have their uses, does look handy for stripping/rebuilding suspension off the car though.

Looks alright, apparently using twisty clamp ones is quite dangerous on a Mondeo so if the time comes I may invest in one of those.

Traditional ones are fine, just make sure you get dual prong ones and take your time tightening each side gradually.

Used them quite a few times now and never had a problem.

I really hate traditional spring compressors, I always put 2 sets on each time (4 compressors), then you have to make sure you put them on at the right angles as to not fould the strut/top mounts when it comes to refitting..

I might invest in one of those next time its needed
