Spring upgrade - which insurer?

Hey guys. Thinking of getting some H&R springs fitted to my 2011 scirocco. Was wondering what people have done about telling their insurers and how much it has increased their quote by?

Also, any insurers that specialise in cheap quotes for modified cars?

Cheers

Might be worth giving Brentacre a ring, as they dont charge admin fees for adding modifications; furthermore adding low level modifications e.g. lowering springs, cat back exhaust and alloys didn't impact my quote.
They seem to only charge an additional premium for modifications that substantially increase the car's output like turbocharging, engine swaps etc.

I checked with admiral as I've just renewed and may Change the springs on the Fn2 - added £5 to my years price.

With most insurers it'll cost very little unless you're a new driver - the specialists may just include it for free as per above.

Only ones you need to watch are, from memory the swift/ensure etc group who just won't cover modifications

One thing for the OP to note is that some companies like Admiral will only replace modifications with OEM parts in the event of an accident, not like for like as the specialists do.

Admiral/elephant will allow upto 6 mods
Admin fee is £17.50 to make a change tho
Just add a loada mods under the one admin fee tbh

They do however state that they will not insure the value of the mods.

In which case tbh I think if they're not inusring them then the shoudln't be raising your premium

Thats exactly the kind of advice I was looking for guys. From entering the mod into price comparison sites my quote has over doubled in price so think the easy to go is definitely to phone around then

Have a look at some of the VW forums mate, some of them offer discounts with insurers.
Worth a bash, I don't see why it shoudl double your insurance tho.

Elephant and admiral will only accept lowering upto 50mm, I know thats daft just thouht I'd mention it :p

Right. So bit of an update. For the springs i was going to go through admiral as they only charge 15 extra a year to ensure me with them.
BUT im also looking to get a stage 1 revo remap. They said they couldn't cover this because the maps not a permanent thing. I thought that was odd
So any advice on who I could go to that aren't going to be extortionate? Also what are the right and wrong things to say with regards to describing the map over the phone?

Thanks again guys

The person you spoke to was being a bit daft. They will insure it as being a chip on their system rather than a map - maybe try phoning and speaking to someone else.

They dont insure things like strut braces etc they just refuse to cover the car if you fit them..

but if you declare an exhaust or something they are okay.

I take it that you have rang Brentacre? I did mention that the popular insurers would be crap if you intend to modify and make additional changes throughout your policy.
