Ignore it as it's just the settings that nag you about av, firewall, auto updates etc not being enabled.

Hmm,

I have to say I hate spyware with a passion that burns brighter than the rising sun. I spent a day getting rid of some pesky popups the other day on a friends system. It seems the spyware companies are producing harder to fight codes daily.

Anyway, the best things I can suggest are pretty much boot in to windows in safe mode, with no network. Try running spybot and just about every other spyware fighting tool, including Ad-aware and of course the Microsoft antispyware.

You could also check ms config, and the run to see if anything is loading in the background. Truthfully, if you are giving the laptop away, you could simply format the c: and give her a nice clean install of windows XP. It would probablly be better as the laptop is nice and fresh, give her a nice firewall like zonealarm free + AVG.

*edit* bah, that will learn me for not looking at the image correctly :(

Well I am presently taking everything back to factory settings AGAIN  ;) I'm going to see if there is a way that I can download the latest virus definitions for the AV software onto disc and run that straight away just to make sure that everything is cool. I'll also be installing Spybot (again), CCleaner, Pest Patrol and Ad-Aware.
Things just seemed to go haywire for a while. My AV software picked up trojans on the lappy (I have a feeling that they came from a disc which I had SP1 on) and also the old NT Authority system shutdown messages which appeared more than once. Not to mention messages which seemed to pop through from messenger

Ah well ..... here we go again :D

Are you sure about that DDave  Auto updates are enabled as is a firewall (ok, so it's sygate and not windows) but I've never had these before so I'm a wee bit dubious  ;)

Find the advanced setting in Spybot and tell the program NOT to tell you about those particular messages. It's an option in there somewhere but from memory I can't point you to the exact spot.

They are registry settings that Spybot presumes that you want to know about. If you turn off the pesky Windows messages that tell you your AV or firewall is off then Spybot 'presumes' that something nasty has changed them so it changes them back and tells you about it in RED.

If you can't find them then post back and I'll install Spybot and find them for you.
