Hi all,

Which one of these apps do you rate higher?

SPYBOT Search & Destroy or Malwarebytes - Anti malware

Thanks

Spybot is really rather good. It's thorough and seems to have a decent engine. The "Teatimer" agent thingy can annoy sometimes, but it's a pretty reliable bit of software. Have never used the other one; have heard about it, but don't know enough about it to trust it. I tend to install Spybot and AdAware on peoples' computers. Those two together do a pretty fine job of catching nasties.

Obviously make sure they're coupled with a solid AV program and firewall too :)

You can use them both to run weekly scans or something, much better than relying on just one

They work best in a pair :). I use Spybot S&D for it's immunization feature and a weekly scan, I don't use Spybots realtime features. I use Malwarebytes only when I have/suspect spyware is on the machine. I haven't had to use Malwarebytes yet :p.

Relying on a single anti-mal/spy/adware suite isn't a good thing, they all update a different times and they all detect something that the others miss, sometimes one will easily remove something that another detects but fails to remove.

So long as they're not all running in resident mode and competing with each other it's all good, have them all installed and that includes Adaware and Superantispyware too.

I use them both and then if still problems superantispyware.
not a fan of adaware these days.
Superantispyware is the only one that fixed a recent issue I had, Adaware and Spybot failed, although still I have Spybot's TeaTimer app running.

Malware bytes is far better at removal than spybot the free version lacks real time prevention.

but no app is perfect Malware bytes and super antispyware are a excellent combo for on demand scans and removal.

for real time you could use a HIPS or Behaviour blocker as a alternative. Two free apps to cover this are Drive Sentry and Threat Fire .

Anybody like SpySweeper?

I've been told it's one of the best! - lol

I used to use this and like it around 5 years ago and it was very good. I haven't heard much good about it over the past couple of years though.

Spysweeper, never heard of it and I dont see people mentioning in when theres spyware threads, not saying its bad, perhaps just not up there with the others being said in this thread?
Spywareblaster on the other hand I seen a few times suggested.

It used to be one of the best but after v5.x.x it became resource heavy and it used to install a tool bar to your browser ! I pretty much gave up on it after that point, they may have improved it again and done away with the tool bar but with so many good freebies out there now it may not be worth the hassle.
