Spyware - Using Spybit at the mo......

I used to run pretty much all the big AV on my old xp system non live.

I just set them to scan at differant times. 1am 3am 5am 7am etc etc

Never had virus probs. On my system

That is the most pointless thing I have ever heard... funny though. :D

I was assuming he was joking?
He's not serious is he?

Anyway, small issue... How can I get rid of the popups that Avira keeps bringing up?
Its getting annoying.

HeHe

Thanks Ratbag for the tip.
You're full of great tips.
Your username is greatly misleading.

Seriously... Great link, cheers.

Actually No i wasn't joking.

But please tell me why its pointless.
That way I can stop doing it.

Just to clarify.

I would have avast run a scan say at 1am
then avg run a scan at 2:30am

Etc etc.

With all this talk of which ones better My thinking was stuff it have all of em (well all but norton).

This was on an old'ish xp system behind a netgear router.

Please show me the error of my ways.(that bit is also serious)

A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous;)

when u run one or more av scanner it can open extra expolits which can make you more vuranble to attack

just for example

you had sys.exe file that ran a important job

avast is protecting it avg wants to also, they both clash and no one protects it.

Yes. Its common knowledge that you just dont have more than one A/V

Any one will do, just never have more than one.

The only time that you can have more than one, is if they NEVER automatically check your files, and if you did that, its even more idiotic because you wont have any protection at all... it will only check the files every couple of hours.

you just dont do it.

If you have more than one and they are set to check the system as they should be, as smogsy says, for every single file that getsa accessed by the system, the A/V will check it out, see that another Program is trying to have a look at it, and it will either throw a fit or move on to the next file, and if both AntiViruses do that then you have no protection at all... Thuis meaning that having more than one A/v is utterly pointless.

Even norton on its own will probably be a safer alternativbe than using the 2 best ntiViruses because at least that will do some kind of a job... Even if it does it badly.

I understand what your saying.

And chances are your complety correct.

Its just ive never had any viruses on that PC so its worked for me(never had live protection crap pc always bogged down) So nothing should clash

I know its like saying I never wear a seatbelt so i dont need one.

Just been lucky I suppose.

Had to clean loads of other peoples pc's just not had trouble on my own. That could be down to not downloading games films etc that are only 150Kb.

To be honest using win7 I have windows defender AVG and windows firewall (although behind router firewall)

Watch me get infected tonight(thatll teach me)

So moral of the story is dont wear two condoms just make sure the one is good enough
